I’m not exactly sure how or where, but someplace along the way from our old apartment to our new house, we lost a box. It’s not such a big deal—at least I don’t think there was anything too important in there. And really, the way that the move went, we were lucky not to forget Violet somewhere in the pile of U-haul boxes. But still, it kind of stinks. I’m pretty sure it was a box full of nothing but vegetable oil and honey. Because that’s all we seem to be missing. Oh, and those cute, tiny hangars for baby clothes. Kind of a random mix of things, but toward the end there anything that wasn’t nailed down was being thrown into any open container that would sit still long enough.
We also misplaced our spare car key somehow in the move. Not such a big deal, except when Adam left for work two days in a row with my car keys in his pocket, right there beside his own car keys in his other pocket. So there Violet and I were, stranded without car keys and with some serious playdates to get to somehow. Of course I tore the house apart looking for the extra key to no avail. I remembered putting it somewhere “safe” where I could easily remember where it was. That didn’t work out so well.
But then yesterday as I was digging through my purse looking for a pen, lo and behold, there was that darn car key, just hanging out at the bottom of my bag. It had been there the whole time, hidden by some old gum wrappers and grocery lists. So now that key is in a special little bowl in clear view on top of the shelf in the kitchen. And we’ll probably never need it again.

That's very frustrating. We also lost 2 boxes. one was of the last minute kitchen stuff that we were using right up until we left. It had my coffee pot and coffee. YIKES! and the other was a long tupperware container of wrapping paper and gift wrap stuff. hmmmm... how do whole boxes get lost?
Maybe if you stopped spending all my money, I wouldn't have as much empty space in my pockets to fill with extra sets of keys. :p
I remember those baby hangers, man, that box has got to be around somewhere.
So since we are about to move in a few weeks, any words of advice? How do we NOT lose boxes??? (and really, where DO they go?)
A good idea is to label the boxes with the actual contents that are inside -- you know, instead of just "stuff from kitchen"...
:)
Good luck with the move, Steph! So exciting!
HAHAHA! classic! I had the opposite problem when I moved from Oklahoma to SF: I had two boxes that went with me from city apartment to city apartment that hadn't been opened since they were taped shut in my dorm room. Part of me was like, 'if I just dumped them on the curb unopened, I will obviously never miss their contents.' But then a bigger, more curious part led me to open them as I was paring and packing for London. And lo and behold! One box contained a box of my grandmother's blankets, and the other a box of old textbooks! The textbooks of course got the boot, but oh goodness I'm so thankful I found that quilt. So let's pretend that the box you lost was full of the useless: vegetable oil, honey, and your old humanities workbook. As for the baby hangers: just one more excuse to shop, right?? (Tell Adam you'll get them on sale. ;)
Also, email me your address! I've got a little sum'in sum'in with your name all over it! And if you've got Natalie Spar's (or can get it without her knowing it's for me), then that would be RAD. MUA! (you can email me at sharonaselby@gmail.com). (That's safe to put on the internet, right?)
